At present Entity::Gratitude Animal Farm is mainly a project to be maintained, due to not to much funds and a persistent drought season for more than one year. Nevertheless our activities continue. Apart from receiving groups (children and students from all over) and educating them about birds and wildlife, we also try to make them aware how to use and to respect the developing park and to enjoy it. Our teachers are very helpful in this.
We have started a breeding program for country pigeons in captivity since in the wild (open) they all too often become victims of snakes, mongooses, civets and worst of all house cats who are almost uncontrollable.
The season for the peacocks is in full swing and we are developing safe breeding places in our adjusted forest. In September we will have again a new generation of them. If our estimate is correct, there now about 1,200 peacocks living in and around Auroville. Their cradle of course remains Gratitude, and up to 50 are during the season passing through here. About 40 are residents.
