Realisation

by Author::P. Daniel

Most knowledge is accompanied by a certain amount of pleasure, witness the happiness of a child when he discovers the secret of the alphabet or of adding numbers, the satisfaction of an astronomer when he traces the existence of a new planet or a new quasar.

The knowledge of the One brings even greater inner joy. The attainment of the mystic or the yogi is not a mere mental or intellectual exercise like the theory of relativity or the postulates of quantum physics. It is an experience which suddenly illumines the very foundation of our being. It solves in one swoop all the questions we have been raising about ourselves and the universe, all the how's and why's and wherefore's in our mind and life. It answers all those insoluble problems about man and creation, god, matter, nature and spirit.

This knowledge comes to us not as a theory among other theories, as a belief among other beliefs or a probability among other probabilities, but finds immediately in the discoverer an echo, a reverberation, a resonance of the whole inner being. It evokes a jubilating paean of certitude in every cell of the body: this is the ultimate truth, the final discovery beyond which there is no more searching, no more doubt, no more despair! It inundates our whole being with the peace and bliss of which all great saints and sages of the past, all the true mystics and yogis have spoken with so much enthusiasm and joy: the ecstasy of the O n e.
