The Helpers

“The days were travellers on a destined road”

In the age-old liturgy of the Catholic mass, the elements of which go back to ancient Egypt, the priest stepping before the altar calls the helpers: the dominions and thrones, the potestates and principalities, the powers and angels, to come and to be present, because without their presence and help the transmutation of the bread into the sacred host could not take place, the sacrifice would be in vain.

Who are these helpers? In our cards you will learn to evoke their presences in you, these guardians, keepers and protectors of your soul, till you become intimate with them and they finally and happily become your playmates. Many are these helping powers and personalities, many the emanations who do the gods' work in the universe.

Throughout the ages men have worshipped them under different names and different form and personalities. And through the ages they prepare and shape the minds and bodies of men, that men may manifest, in the physical world and in the disguise of human consciousness, some ray of the glory and power which they bring down in a double hierarchy of planes of consciousness, a double ladder of ascending and descending formations of the one.

DISCIPLE

All life is a continuous learning process, as well as a discipleship. Only a fossil has stopped learning.

What makes a true disciple is

humility

the capacity to “be a lamb of God before being his lion”. Mere mental knowledge is not the aim but a becoming, a transformation. Therefore the psychological attitude must be a

discipline

imposed by the disciple on himself, on his way of life. It consists essentially in the obedience of the lower parts of our being to the higher. Thus the outward activity of this discipline or way of the disciple is a

service

to the guru, the divine teacher, inner or outer. As long as you are not a master, one who knows, in full possession of your eternity and infinity, a liberated soul, you are necessarily a disciple, and once you are liberated you will joyfully acknowledge your eternal discipleship.

The camel is our symbol for the disciple. Loaded with the mental luggage his teacher has given him, he patiently, stubbornly and obediently crosses the deserts of the world to arrive at the springs of eternal knowledge.
