Meet your father (who is also your child, the child you have to become)

- If matter appears
- to a nuclear physicist
- as a wave of probability
- life appears
- to a molecular genetician
- also
- as a single wave
- starting billions of years ago -
- a wave of improbabilities
The most precious stuff on our planet is our genetic material, the genes of the living beings which create its biosphere continuously new. This genetic material in the higher animals, the primates and man is the fruit of earth’s long evolutionary endeavor. It is conceivable that in its most concentrated form it might be taken by some future space traveller in a handbag via the fourth dimension to another planet and thus transplant there the whole of earth life, from butterflies to elephants, and that by this transplantation that new planet would become a second earth.
This genetic material can also travel through time, for the simple reason that it is immortal, constituting an immortal form of life. And if we look at life in this material, with all its future potentialities of peopling numberless planets and of producing in the millennia to come not only countless future Lao Tses, Platos, Moses’s and Shankaracharya, but super-Platos also, super-Shankaracharyas, super-butterflies, super-horses and super-apes, then we can understand that the true meaning of earth life is in this genetic material and not in the individual beings we see passing through the mini-history which we teach in our schools. When we speak of man we see him as a grown-up fellow of 200 pounds or so, but this is little man, miniman. True man is hidden, perceptible through a microscope of the gods: a few molecules which will go on living through the millenia to become forms of life which are as different from man as man is diefferent from the reptiles of the devonian age. Yet it is always basically that same genetic material of this reptile ancestor which goes on and on producing the mammals, the primates, the race horses and the supermen. And when that little appendix, grown-up man, looks at himself as the crown of evolution he does not realise that he was only a vehicle to carry the crown jewel for a short moment toward some distant future. Christians believe that God incarnated in man 2000 years ago. But three billion years ago he incarnated in a carbon ring in some primeval sea to form the first ancestor of the DNA molecule which is still alive in us. And he will still be incarnating when man joins, in an additional sedimentary layer, the fossils of the devonian age.
- Before the reptile was I am.
- I am the DNA molecule
- and the mutation.
