Objective

The aim of Entity::Aurohamsadhwani is to see the impact of classical music on the growing generation and the adults towards harmonious coexistence as we celebrate “Human Unity” in Auroville.

And to see the impact on the learning capacity of our children who are learning classical music and also teaching others.

Activities of the year

The Dance classes are conducted with 25 students in 3 batches.
The Veena classes are conducted with 23 students in 3 batches.
The Vocal classes are conducted with 25 students in 1 batch.
The Keyboard classes are conducted with 13 students in 1 batch.
The Guitar classes are conducted with 6 students in 1 batch.

We gave Veena performances at the following occasions/places:

  • In Bharat Nivas and at the SAWCHU building for the Thiyagaraja Arathanai Festival.
  • Thirukazhukundram Siva temple festival of Amman.
  • Chitther Peedam, Puducherry.
  • Navarathri festival in Siva temple Puducherry, conducted by Esaimamani A. Susairaj and four other temples in Puducherry.
  • Cultural programme during the science seminar conducted by the Puducherry University.
  • During the Sivarathri festival our students performed veena and vocal in the Sithananda temple, Puducherry.
  • During the Sivarathri festival our students performed veena and vocal in the Sithananda temple, Puducherry.
  • 100yrs celebration of Mother and Sri Aurobindo’s meeting, on 29th March, in Savitri Bhavan with mudras.
  • During the Sivarathri festival our students performed veena and vocal in the Sithananda temple, Puducherry.

We performed dance in Bharat Nivas during the Tamil New Year Festival.

Outcomes

  • This is an ongoing programme and new adults and new children are joining the veena class at all times.
  • The students perform individually (solo performance).
  • They identify the Ragas, which shows the learning skill is good.
  • Sometimes students play the veena in their schools to show to the other children and to explain about the instruments.
  • Through these programmes our students visit many temples and know the history of the places and the temples.
  • In keyboard, four of our students had their progress evaluated by the College of Trinity from England. All of them were evaluated as First Class or Second Class.
  • Guitar class students are learning the basics and improving their skills.
  • It is an on-going process to learn and become masters in their fields of interest. In future those who are interested to join a music college to do a master degree, will be able to do so.

Remarks

It is being a great experience for all who are attending these classes, as they are learning to work in a group and to help each other. They not only share their difficulties related to the classes, but also learn to deal with the other people they face and get advice from the adults. These classes give us the pleasure to see the children interact indifferently with other children and adults from outside Auroville. This all creates the climate for this atmosphere.

Many temples and one college have invited us for a veena, vocal or dance performance and we have received gifts and certificates. The students' strength has vastly increased since their parents have seen their performances inside and outside of Auroville.
