SAIIER Transport Service

The Entity::SAIIER Transport Service began in 1985-86. Over the years the service has endeavored to create and maintain common Transport facilities in Auroville. The bulk of its activities are geared towards school Transport. It also maintains a bus service to Pondicherry for Aurovilians, Newcomer and Guests.

The SAIIER Transport Service (STS) has 11 vehicles including 4 buses, 2 Tempo Travellers, 1 Jeep, 1 Tata Ace Mini Carrier, 1 Motor bike and 2 cycles. These are used for taking the children to and from school and sports five days a week, for swimming pool trips and for occasional field trip. The transport also does Pondy trips for Aurovilians and guests who want to go to Ashram. It also undertakes some time works for Auroville programs, such as dance and music programs and Auroville related culture programs. The carrier picks up the school lunches prepared at the Solar Kitchen and delivers them to all the schools and different parts of the community. In addition, STS makes special trips for the elderly residents and for regular or occasional community needs.

At present we have 5 full time Aurovillians, 7 drivers, 1 helper, 1 amma, and 1 watchman.

Our main problem is constant hike in the price of diesel, spares, insurance, taxes, permits.

In future when we get more vehicles we would like to expand our service to the community.
