=1 gap

A genuine equals one community

in the distant future

will be a society of total convergence

a convergence of all life

even in its strangest forms.

Primitive man allows no deviation

from the one pattern of life he considers dignified.

But after a long and rapid evolution

man has learned to accept deviants

from his own life form or life style

other kinds of music, hairdo, dancing or spelling.

And the day will come

when he will accept

even those forms of life

which today would seem to us horrible or repulsive.

“In my father’s house are many mansions.”

Each habitable planet in the universe

is such a mansion, with trillions of forms of life

stranger even than our cousins of yesterday

the gorillas, the silenus and the sifakas.

All these we will meet tomorrow

in the cities of our children

without racial or cultural prejudice

as brother meets brother

as one meets himself in an old photograph and says,

“Ah, this is what I was like as a boy…”

or when I had fur… or wings… or a tail…

Nobody has ever seen something other than himself,

or met outside himself a reality which was not already in him.
