The child born in Auroville

The child born in Auroville* will complete a parturition not of nine months but of five billion years. The earth, herself a child of the universe, is his mother.

This has always been true. But it is made sacrificially true by the parents of the child equals one. Auroville will be offered to them as a launching pad, where, fuelled by adoration, their child will be prepared through nine months of conjugal compassion, for his journey into the future.

The existential consciousness of the uterine child is infinitely higher than the ego consciousness of the parents. Parenthood in Auroville will be one unbroken endeavour by the mother and father to surrender to their new and resplendent deity, the child equals one.

The extirpation, root and branch, of my-mine-ours is a prerequisite of an equals one conception. Nor may the newborn child in truth be offered to the Divine, the perfect consciousness. For in Auroville it is the parents who are chosen by the child for sacrifice. The child equals one has chosen his parents, and they will live only to express their gratitude for this choosing.

Their gratitude is not only for Everychild that is man’s past, but also for Aurochild, he who comes from the other side of the dawn… that child of the future who, tirelessly incarnating, has created all our culture, all our art, all our science and all our love.

For the child equals one leaps into his mother’s womb not from the past but from the future. He as been there and he knows that it works.

His body is a hand of the Great Mother offering to guide us all to the ecstasy of a fully realised body.

* Here used as a state of consciousness which will reach a special intensity in Auroville but which can exist anywhere on earth… and does!
