Objective
The aim of Entity::Auroville Rainbow Child is to offer to Auroville children opportunities to discover themselves and acquire new skills additional to a formal school education.
Description of project
Regular classes of Yoga and Energetic games for children are held in Pitanga on Saturdays, and sports classes are held on Sundays at Certitude Sports ground.
Around 24 children from different schools participate regularly, of ages 5 to 13.
The classes were started in April 2007. The program is ongoing.
Outcomes
Up to now some children have participated for many years in this program. They have easily absorbed advanced information given in class and helped new children to integrate smoothly.
Through “Energetic games” they continued to explore their inner world in a fun and joyous way, observed the body reaction and were directed to discover ways of dealing with their emotions constructively. Children spontaneously started to create new games which are more subtle. These games are now part of our regular program and still new ones are invented on a regularly base by kids replenishing our reservoir of activities.
Children matured in their artistic expression and asked to learn advanced drawing techniques and were ready to experience new materials. As the interest for crafty activities is very high the program got adjusted to meet children‘s wishes. The quality of their work increased through the year and creative expression got refined. The result showed children‘s designer‘s abilities on which we worked to develop.
Yoga classes are very popular and always full. Here again the skill increased. More stretching plus pranayama was practiced with a success. We included flashcards with pictures of asana explained in detail to enliven and stimulate the advance practice. Yoga practice increases children‘s capacity to cope with the stresses of modern life. As a free choice students came on Sunday morning to play tennis, badminton and basketball. Competitions were held without hurts in an atmosphere of support and fun.
Remarks
We intend to continue the program and implement changes and adjustments according to the children' needs and interests. Through constant research and exchange between instructors and students we aspire to get attuned to the reality of dawning Unity.
With a consistent place more activities could be offered and other courses could be integrated. We envision this place - “Rainbow Child‘s Centre” to manifest for the good of Auroville‘s children.
