Ivar's School

In August 1978 an educational project was established in Kottekarai village for these children who normally do not attend school. This school was begun by Ivar, an Aurovilian, who constructed a simple building, installed electricity, brought in basic equipment, employed a young teacher, and with him supervised the daily programme for 75 children.

Six months later a similar programme was begun in the nearby village of Alankuppam.

Classes are held between 6 and 9 a.m., 6 and 9 p.m. daily at both locations for about 75 children. English, Tamil, physiology, geography and maths are being taught.

A snack is being served to these children and to approximately 90 infants. The programme is financed by Auroville through donation, i.e. from Janagri in Madras and Secours Populaire Francais in Paris.
